NDMP Certification

NDMP certification validates application interoperability with the NetApp Data ONTAP OS and tape-based backup products.

NetApp® certification of backup applications ensures that software vendors’ products interoperate with the NetApp Data ONTAP® operating system and our tape-based backup products.

Why Use NDMP
NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) provides an open standard for network-based backup of network-attached storage (NAS). NDMP minimizes coding needed for different applications by providing standard commands for backing up and restoring file servers. For NetApp customers, NDMP increases the speed and efficiency of NAS data protection, because data can bypass backup servers and be written directly to tape storage.

Test Plan
The NetApp interoperability test plan lists different ways of testing tape backups of NetApp file servers. This set of tests determines whether the Data ONTAP OS and backup software interoperate for successful backup and recovery operations.
