Achieve always-on data mobility with NetApp DataMotion. Perform live data movement without the need for planned downtime.

NetApp® DataMotion™ lets you easily and quickly move data from one logical or physical storage device to another while maintaining continuous access to your applications. The result is that you can keep your shared storage infrastructure running as you add capacity, update infrastructure technology, and balance performance.

NetApp DataMotion for vFiler
NetApp DataMotion for vFiler® integrates three proven NetApp software technologies—MultiStore®, SnapMirror®, and Provisioning Manager—to provide live data mobility for physical and virtual environments. You are now able to keep your clients and applications connected to their data regardless of where that data physically resides.

You can now implement a truly multi-tenant storage infrastructure with the highest possible service levels, because traditional planned downtime will be a thing of the past. Scheduling routine maintenance, software upgrades, and technology refreshes will be greatly simplified since individual hardware outages do not affect data availability. This is particularly important for virtual server environments and for IT-as-a-service offerings in which mobility and 24/7 availability are considered as table stakes.

NetApp DataMotion for Volumes
NetApp DataMotion for Volumes provides transparent movement of storage volumes with or without LUNs, from one aggregate to another, to facilitate nondisruptive operations, provide dynamic load balancing of resources, optimize application performance according to media type, and enable nondisruptive updates and upgrades.

With NetApp DataMotion for Volumes, you can manage your logical resources more effectively by rebalancing load and performance for specific datasets. Avoid hot spots, efficiently manage capacity, and adjust service levels by dynamically assigning each volume nondisruptively to the appropriate disk pool.

The NetApp DataMotion features are optimized for both physical and virtual server environments. All major virtual server environments, including VMware®, Microsoft® Hyper-V™, and Citrix XenServer, are supported.
