The Fibre Channel
Industry Association (FCIA) is an international mutual benefit
nonprofit organization of manufacturers, system integrators,
developers, vendors, industry professionals, and end users. The
FCIA is committed to delivering a broad base of Fibre Channel
infrastructure technology to support a wide array of applications
in the mass storage and IT-based arenas. FCIA working groups and
committees focus on specific aspects of the technology, targeting
both vertical and horizontal markets, including data storage,
video, networking, and storage area network (SAN) management.
NetApp Participation
NetApp is a Sponsor Member of the FCIA, with a representative on
the FCIA Governing Board. In addition, NetApp chairs the FCIA
Marketing Committee, and is represented on the FCIA-SNIA Alliance
Steering Committee.
FCoE
NetApp is also an active participant in the development and
marketing of the Fibre
Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) standard. When complete, this new
standard promises to have a significant impact on customer data
centers, enabling the I/O consolidation of Fibre Channel and
Ethernet traffic onto a common Ethernet fabric. NetApp is in a
unique position through its unified, multi-protocol architecture to
deliver the promise of network unification through Ethernet
storage, enable the consolidation of multiple transport protocols
into a single infrastructure, and continue to enhance traditional
FC storage investments.
