Mumbai, September 07, 2009 -
NetApp today announced that according to IDC's Asia/Pacific
External Disk Storage Tracker, June 2009 release, it was
the leader in the NAS market in India with a share of 45.5% in
terms of factory revenue in CY 2008 (January-December 2008). The
report also states that NetApp was one of the leading players in
the India Ethernet Storage (iSCSI SAN) market with 29.7% share in
terms of factory revenue during the same period.
According to IDC's Asia/Pacific
External Disk Storage Tracker, June 2009 release, the
overall India External Disk Storage market for CY 2008 recorded a
growth of 21.1% over CY2007 in terms of factory revenue. The India
Ethernet Storage (iSCSI SAN) market recorded a higher than average
year-on-year growth of 69.5% in CY 2008, thereby increasing its
contribution by 2 percentage points in the overall India External
Disk Storage market (from 5% in CY 2007 to 7% in CY 2008).
"With more and more companies trying to
reduce their IT budgets and yet keep their businesses agile,
Ethernet Storage (iSCSI SAN) has emerged as one of the sought after
solutions," said Amit Dalal, Asst. Manager, Enterprise
Computing Research, IDC India.
According to NetApp, in the current economic
situation where tight budgets are forcing companies to relook their
IT infrastructure, IP storage (Ethernet Storage) is gaining more
popularity among Indian enterprises.
"The India Enterprise Storage market is
evolving and the momentum is shifting towards Ethernet in a big
way. The underlying reason for this is a ten-fold increase in
Ethernet speeds. We are seeing increased adoption of 10G in data
centers, which will drive economies of scale. This in turn is
catalysing the shift towards deployment of Ethernet Storage.
NetApp's prominent position in the India IP storage market is a
strong foundation for us to provide innovative solutions that help
customers increase efficiency and control costs," said
Rajesh Janey, President - Sales, India & SAARC,
NetApp.
"Significant advances in Ethernet technology
like 10 Gigabit and FCoE driven by key storage networking players
have made this a promising option. It offers the speed and
reliability of Fibre Channel at the cost of Ethernet." said
Surajit Sen, Director - Channels, Marketing &
Alliances, NetApp India.
