Bengaluru, India-June 25,
2009-NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) India today announced the
inauguration of its customer experience centre in Bengaluru - the
NetApp Innovation Centre (NIC). NetApp invested in
infrastructure and equipment to build this multi-million (U.S.)
dollar innovation center. This 390 Rack datacenter is managed with
a remote console and can be judged as the most energy efficient
datacenter in India with a power usage ratio of 1.55 as compared to
the industry average of 2.5. Leveraging its own technology NetApp
has seen a year on year 30% reduction in its datacenter costs.
With NIC, NetApp will offer its customers an
environment where they can accurately assess measurable benefits of
advanced technology in their Datacenter environments. The NIC is
co-located with the NetApp engineering centre in Bengaluru, which
was first set up in 2003. This centre will give customers access to
a huge pool of engineering talent.
The NIC will showcase leading data storage
and management technologies to meet the demands of next generation
Datacenter computing requirements. The team at NIC can work with
customers to solve unique problems specific to their environments
which are not addressed by standard solutions and architectural
blueprints. It will also help customers use NetApp solutions for
the maximum benefit to their business.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Rajesh Janey,
President - Sales, India & SAARC, NetApp, said "Storage is one
of the highest areas of spending in the datacenter and also the
fastest growing. The economic slowdown has made it imperative for
customers to look at innovative ways to do more with less. The aim
of the NIC is to help customers achieve business breakthroughs. We
have added more than 100 customers in the last one year. The NIC
has already helped 90% of the customers who have leveraged this
facility, to design and select the right solution for their
environments.
"This centre will provide NetApp customers an
opportunity to evaluate and validate the technology innovations in
enterprise data management, and help them choose the best solution
suited for their business needs. We are confident that the NetApp
innovation center would give our customers an outstanding
experience by giving them access to innovative technology and
solutions." said Syed Masroor Director - Systems Engineering,
NetApp India.
The NIC will benefit both the customers and
the partners in many ways. Some key benefits are:
Customers
- Can test their own applications in NIC with simulation
scenarios, run benchmarks, stress tests and integration with NetApp
data management suite of solutions.
- Can get a better understanding of the nuances of technology and
the best design options for their environment.
- Can experience the benefits that NetApp technology delivers and
use it to create a real life ROI & Payback period for their
business environments.
Partners
- Can use this as a test bed to test & architect a complete
solution using 3rd party tools and applications before proposing a
validated solution to their customers. This helps partners deliver
a quality assured solution to their customer which dramatically
increases the probability of a successful deployment.
Green Centre
The storage industry is poised to lead the green movement in the IT
sector. Storage is the fastest growing part of Datacenter
investments according to the IDC Perspectives Study 2008. It is
also the second largest consumer of power in the Datacenter as per
US Environmental Protection Agency.
The NIC will demonstrate how NetApp helps its
customers in reducing power and cooling costs in a Datacenter,
thereby making a direct impact on the environment. NetApp
internally uses a combination of multiple technologies like Thin
Provisioning, RAID-DP, Thin Cloning, Thin Replication &
Deduplication to dramatically reduce the actual amount of storage
capacity required in the Datacenter.
Reducing disk space has a proportional impact
on the consumption of power & cooling. According to an Oliver
Wyman Study called "Making Green IT a Reality", NetApp solutions
offer customers a 50% saving on power, space & cooling as
compared to competing storage technologies. NetApp has been
recognized by utility company PG&E for its efforts in reducing
the consumption of power in the Datacenter and has received a $1.4
million rebate. NetApp has also been honored with the Infoworld
Green 15 Award in April 2008. IDG's Computerworld has named NetApp
a Top Green-IT Company in February 2008.
