NetApp Extends its SAN Switch Portfolio
SYDNEY, Australia-19 November 2007 -- Network
Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of data and
storage management, today broadened its Fibre Channel SAN switch
portfolio with two new Cisco switches: the MDS 9134 Multiservice
Modular Switch and MDS 9222i Multilayer Fabric Switch, and a new
multiprotocol module, the 18/4 Multiservice Module. These latest
additions are part of the NetApp plan to provide data centre
customers with the very latest switch technologies to overcome
their challenges for managing and protecting high-performance
databases and business applications. The new Cisco MDS switches,
coupled with NetApp® unified storage solutions, including the
FAS3000 mid-range platforms and the recently announced FAS2000
entry-level platforms, help customers meet a wide range of
requirements for storage networking.
NetApp, the fastest growing unified storage vendor according to
Gartner1 (see http://www.netapp.com/us/news/press/news_rel_20070530),
offers storage solutions that provide customers with the ability to
reliably connect critical resources in data centres and across
enterprises. From interoperable multiprotocol SAN routing to SAN
extension over IP, NetApp helps diverse IT infrastructures remain
connected and productive.
"Cisco and NetApp have a strong relationship and share a common
vision to provide solutions that support customer requirements for
modularity and multiprotocol support," said Ed Chapman, vice
president, product management, Data Centre Business Unit at Cisco.
"These new switches, combined with NetApp unified storage, provide
our joint customers with a balance of high-performance
functionality, low total cost of ownership, and intelligent
management."
"Cisco's modular, multiservice switches are a natural fit for the
modular, multiprotocol design of NetApp unified storage systems,"
said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions Marketing at
NetApp. "NetApp continues to bring value to the world's largest
data centres and Fibre Channel SAN (FC SAN) customers by providing
