Australian First as Trusted Cloud Chooses NetApp and FlexPod to Deliver Secure ITaaS

Reflects desires of local market for efficient, flexible best-of-breed technology model

SYDNEY, Australia-August 2, 2011- Trusted Cloud (formerly IntraPower), an ASX-listed high-availability ICT specialist, has chosen NetApp and the FlexPod Modular Data Centre Solution as the platform on which to grow its trusted cloud solution.

The FlexPod modular data centre solution was created through the ongoing collaboration between NetApp, Cisco and VMware, and provides customers with a pre-sized, validated, standardised and scalable data centre architecture design. Trusted Cloud was the first company in Australia, and one of the first in the world, to purchase and fully implement FlexPod.

Trusted Cloud delivers virtual desktops to enterprise-level customers across a range of industries, domestically and internationally. The company is using NetApp storage and FlexPod to expand its trusted cloud solution to customers and to offer secure, multi-tenanted IT-as-a-Service that can be white-labelled by partners who can then leverage Trusted Cloud's leading edge experience, IP, services and infrastructure to leap frog into the cloud computing market.

Greg Kennish, CEO of Trusted Cloud, said, "We are building the equivalent of a power station for secure and reliable IT-as-a-Service. When we've completed the implementation, partners will be able to white label our cloud offerings to suit their specific customer requirements.

"To be able to offer our partners and customers a robust, secure and flexible solution, we needed an efficient, agile data centre foundation. We looked at everything available in the market and the FlexPod was the only option that was fully certified, and which offered us the functionality and scalability we needed to expand our offering out to 30,000 virtual desktops. In conjunction with the intelligent NetApp storage solution which is already saving us more than 50 percent of our storage space, we are in a strong position to expand our business and our services to new vertical industries and international markets."

By working with NetApp and using FlexPod, Trusted Cloud and its customers benefit in three areas:

  • Via a secure, multi-tenanted solution on one platform, allowing economies of scale and the benefits of IT-as-a-Service
  • Greater efficiency and cost effectiveness due to shared infrastructure
  • Flexibility and scalability to enable new partners to build out leading edge, robust infrastructure, by leveraging Trusted Cloud's infrastructure.

Greg Kennish said, "It was critical that we engaged with a vendor who understood our strategy and our objectives with this project. From the start, NetApp understood that our ultimate goal was to provide the best end-user experience, because that is also one of their key values."

Peter O'Connor, Vice President, NetApp A/NZ and ASEAN, said, "Trusted Cloud is an excellent example of the power of the FlexPod solution and of the demand for a best of breed technology model in the Australian market. The fact that Trusted Cloud is white labeling its offering for partners reflects the state of the Australian IT department, wanting a tailored, flexible solution, but needing to demonstrate cost efficiency and return on investment to the business.

"Businesses like Trusted Cloud which are built on strong foundations such as FlexPod and NetApp storage are working with technology that will scale and change with the needs of their business, making them future ready."
