NetApp Continues Virtual Desktop Momentum With Enhanced Tools and Support for VMware View
Sydney, AUSTRALIA - 2 December
2009 - NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) today introduced new tools to
help customers deploy and manage virtual desktops through
VMware® View™ 4. VMware View and NetApp® storage
together enable customers to rapidly provision virtual desktops and
storage to keep up with their business needs and help drive down
costs.
With the release of NetApp Rapid Cloning
Utility version 3.0, which provides support for VMware View 4 and
VMware vSphere™, customers can simplify the way they
provision VMware virtual machines and streamline their business.
Rapid Cloning Utility is a VMware vCenter™ Server plug-in
that allows customers to replicate a single image hundreds of times
in minutes while using almost no additional storage capacity. Rapid
Cloning Utility complements VMware View Composer linked clones by
providing advanced cloning capabilities for individual desktops and
manual desktop pools. Now VMware View customers can automate and
reduce administrative requirements for virtual desktops and
complete projects faster, all while keeping storage costs at a
minimum.
"Many of our customers are deploying a
virtual desktop model to increase the flexibility and control of
their enterprise desktops," said David Hekimian, practice manager
for Virtualization at Trace3, a regional systems integrator. "These
customers require a proven, enterprise-ready solution that delivers
an end-user experience equivalent to existing PCs and decreases
overall costs. The efficiencies, data manageability, and business
continuity capabilities inherent in NetApp storage, combined with
the recent enhancements in VMware View 4, such as PC-over-IP
protocol, allow Trace3 to deliver the most compelling and
cost-effective desktop solution to end users."
"VMware View, combined with NetApp storage,
reduces the cost of the solution significantly and brings enhanced
efficiency and flexibility to help customers deploy desktops as a
managed service," said Patrick Harr, vice president, Enterprise
Desktop Marketing, VMware. "VMware View 4 is the best way for our
customers to provision their virtual desktops, and NetApp completes
the picture by adding the agility to provision storage just as
quickly and easily."
"NetApp's strong history of collaboration
with VMware continues with the launch of VMware View 4," said
Patrick Rogers, vice president of Solutions and Alliances at
NetApp. "The advanced efficiency and reliability of NetApp storage,
combined with the control and flexibility of VMware View, allows us
to jointly deliver an optimum solution that positively affects
virtual desktop ROI for our customers."
