NetApp is a Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation, which supports creation of an open-source cloud operating system.
OpenStack is a global collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists producing a ubiquitous open-source cloud computing platform for public and private clouds. The OpenStack Foundation promotes the development, distribution and adoption of the OpenStack platform.
As the independent home for OpenStack, the OpenStack Foundation has attracted more than 5,600 individual members from 87 countries and 850 organisations and has secured more than $10 million in funding.
NetApp has been a contributing member of the OpenStack open-source community since early 2011. When the OpenStack Foundation was inaugurated in September 2012, NetApp joined as a Gold Member.
In the OpenStack Essex release (April 2012), NetApp contributed a volume driver for OpenStack Compute, which enables automated storage provisioning with multiple classes of services from a catalogue of definable options.
In the Folsom release (October 2012), our contribution ensured that the NetApp® clustered Data ONTAP® storage operating system is available to back-end OpenStack Block Storage and OpenStack Compute.
