NetApp Wins BCA Green Mark Award
NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) This year, data storage solutions company NetApp took home the BCA Green Mark GoldPlus Award under the Office Interiors scheme at the annual BCA Awards.
Initially launched as a key strategic programme to raise the awareness of sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings, the BCA Green Mark is a Green Building rating system recognised by the World Green Building Council (WGBC). It assesses buildings, parks, office interiors and districts for their environmental friendliness; and recognises excellence with award ratings from Certified, Gold, Gold Plus and Platinum (the highest rating).
NetApp’s Singapore office at Millenia Tower, Temasek Avenue highlights the organisation’s focus on incorporating sustainable features and Green IT. Green features include employing scheduling and zoning of lighting and air conditioning for better control of energy usage; incorporating motion sensors for rooms with varied usage patterns to lower the overall energy consumption; and the extensive use of sustainable products for office fit-outs and greenery to improve indoor air quality and employee productivity.
Other stand-out areas noted were ergonomic lessons and flexible working hours for the welfare of NetApp employees. Such initiatives have contributed to the amassing of notable accolades such as appearing on Fortune Magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the seventh consecutive year: all of which collectively underline the organisation’s commitment towards building a corporate culture which celebrates its employees.
The benefits of Green Mark buildings include cost savings resulting from efficient use of key resources such as energy and water, leading to lower operational and maintenance costs. Other advantages include enhanced indoor environmental quality and occupant health.
“We’ve gone with the office of the future concept because it creates an environment that helps motivate our employees and fosters the innovation and collaboration that is so important to our success. The concept of hot desking was something different that our Singapore, ASEAN and APAC teams were used to. But in the past year, this new design has proven to be a key driver in the development of a positive and open working environment,” said Scott Morris, Vice President and General Manager NetApp ASEAN.
The work of the Singapore team reflects NetApp’s belief that we share in the global responsibility for protecting and preserving our environment, for both today’s and future generations, by practicing sound environmental stewardship. This year, BCA gave out a total of 293 awards of which 178 awards are for the BCA Green Mark Award. The Green Mark for Office Interiors was introduced in 2009 to promote the use of environmentally friendly features and sustainable practices by office tenants.
